Race Training
A core element of the Clipper Race experience is the pioneering training programme which transforms novices and relatively inexperienced sailors into highly skilled racing yacht crew.
CLIPPER TRAINING has trained more than 2,000 people who intend to race across the oceans and around the world with the Clipper Race. The experience and expertise that has been gained during this process is second to none and has enabled Clipper Training to develop a world class training programme.
Our unique approach inspires confidence in individuals to tackle challenging situations and embark on the adventure of a lifetime.
The moment you first set foot on board a Clipper yacht you embark on your Clipper Training, an intensive in-house programme, delivered at our headquarters on the UK south coast, that will prepare you to tackle the world’s oceans.
Level 1 introduces you to the basic principles of sailing and teaches you personal safety, first aid and sea survival techniques along with the principles of good seamanship.
During Level 2 you will continue the development of your basic sailing and seamanship skills acquired in Level 1 and you’ll be introduced to key racing skills, spinnakers and boat to boat communication.
Level 3 widens your skills within an offshore environment, allowing you to acquire new navigational, meteorological and watch leader skills in offshore surroundings.
The final stage of training, Level 4, allows the skippers and crew to develop their race teams and boats in a realistic setting.
