Broker's Comments
Despite years of looking at boats, both new and second-hand (“pre-loved,” as our transatlantic cousins would have it!), I still can’t help thinking of what it would be like to own each and every one. I think I would feel fondly about this one. The Westerly Griffon was the worthy successor to the phenomenally popular Centaur, and this is a very nice example. She’s built with Westerly’s characteristic solidity: for example, the hardwood handholds both in the saloon and on deck can only be described as massive, and the deck-gear looks suitable for boats at least one size up. The Griffon is also full of clever and practical ideas, such as the full size saloon table that hinges up out of the way against the forward bulkhead; the sliding frame that pulls out from the port settee to create a generous double berth in the saloon, and the wooden storage chest cunningly disguised as a companionway step. Access to the engine is excellent: there is even room for a muscular crew to swing the hand-starter, in the unlikely event of the electric start failing to do the job! On deck there is a good-sized, deep, cockpit; six substantial winches and all lines led aft. The transom-hung rudder’s tiller folds up to maximise space in the cockpit. All in all, this is a practical and attractive yacht whose capabilities exceed her comparatively diminutive size. These boat details are subject to contract.
