Broker's Comments
The MGC 27 is a fast cruiser with a great reputation for sailing performance as well as ease of handling. They were originally sold as Contessa 27’s but when MG purchased the moulds from Jeremy Rodgers in the mid 80's they renamed it the MGC27. Northshore later took over MG Yachts and were the builders of this particular boat. A great opportunity to get out racing round the cans with a little bit of comfort or a lovely little pocket cruiser. I would say her condition is average of this type.
Owner comments:
(i) Maggie is in fair / good condition - she has been raced in the Solent for about 12 Saturdays a year and Round the Island Race and the rest of the time just cruised around to Cowes, Lymington, etc. When the pictures were taken she had just been lifted out at end of season - since then the owners have undertaken a complete varnish down below of the bulkheads, saloon table, sole boards and has come up great -
(I) The hull overall is good condition for its year - there is some crazing but nothing significant - since she photos were taken she has received a hull polish, using G7, and also received two coats of anti-foul
(iii) No issues starting the engine - down below there are two heavy batteries. A new fuel filter was also added around 3 years ago that has a priming pump on it that sends fuel to the engine before starting.
Last year (March '19) the engine was lifted out, as well as the sail drive stripped and serviced, - the diaphragm was also replaced last year which is a job done every 7 -10 years
(iv) Sails - the main is around 2014 as is the No.1 and No.3 headsails are Hyde Sails - they have lots of use left in them. The No.2 is a great sail / driver but next to be replaced. The boat has two spinnakers - 1 smaller / heavier, 1 larger / lighter - both fair condition.
(v) The windows were replaced / re-seated around 10 years ago
(vi) A full survey was undertaken of Maggie 3 years ago - it recommended that the rigging be replaced and the diaphragm which was done last year, March '19. Other than that it was the usual recommendations - replaces flares, etc. - which was all done.
Overall Maggie is in a good / fair condition - last year the owners spent £4k on her service / replace the rigging, engine, sail drive and diaphragm.
Since the photos were taken she's had re-varnish down below, a hull clean and polish and two coats of anti-foul. She's is currently back on her mooring
