In listing this boat I've discovered some of the information is estimated including the capacities of tankage. The fuel tanks are said to have been replaced in 1993 and are constructed of cored fiberglass. There is also anecdotal evidence the bottom of the boat was rebuilt by The Shipwright 's Co-op in Port Townsend back in 1993. The owner says it was done with Tamarack wood. At the time of writing this broker is attempting to confirm the bottom job with the Co-op. Fasteners above the waterline appear to be original galvanized marine nails as there has been a little weeping from rust that has been sanded down, puttied and painted. The hull would benefit from a new tip and roll paint job. There has been no recent survey.
Lake Union Dry Dock appears to have built about 22 of the 42 foot boats in the 20's. Most are well-documented and there is a strong following here in the Northwest.
There is a very informative online post linked here as to the history of both Lake Union Dry dock and the Seattle Dreamboats. https://cya.wildapricot.org/resources/Documents/WoodenBoat-Dreamboats_2020.pdf
After contacting Port Townsend Ship Co-op they affirmed the boat had work done in the early 90s but they have no specific record of what was done. They did confirm Tamarak or Larch was being used at that time to re-plank. That would have been done with bronze screw fasteners below the waterline.

Waterline Boats / Boatshed does not independently verify capacities and measures which are reported from seller-provided information and/or literature.

Entering the salon from the cockpit you feel like you're walking into a time machine. A large full-width comfortable and woody interior reminds you of the great craftsmanship that went into construction of boats before the advent of plastics. There is a free-standing Dickinson Arctic style stove to starboard. The seller reports this heater is hydronic connected to the boat heating system so the forward cabins have heat. There is a fold-up table next to a chair on that side. To port is a loveseat-size settee with table and lamp. To port and forward is the helm which has an exposed chain drive to the steering system. Lots of glass gives this room a bright 360 degree view. The headliner is lovely with wood supports crossing every 18 inches or so.

Moving forward you step down into a galley to your starboard side. It has a range with oven, double basin sink and an under counter fridge. Cute port holes make the windows into this area. There is also an overhead windowed hatch allowing additional lighting into the galley. Across from the galley is the head with brass polished sink and a shower with small tub.

Moving forward there are single pullman-style berths on both sides with a large butterfly deck hatch above. Then further forward in the foc'sle of the boat is a "V" berth and a covered chain locker. There is another smaller butterfly hatch above the forward cabin berth.

This interior is very attractive with wood floors and carpets.

Commentaires du Broker

7 VIRTUAL TOURS - 1 VIDEO - 135 PHOTOS - FULL SPECS & BROKER'S COMMENTS CAN BE VIEWED OF THIS 42 LAKE UNNION DREAMBOAT.

They say wood boat ownership is like a love affair. This owner has fallen out of love. Price reduced today by $7000. Priced now as a steal. This is really a lovely boat.

The Lake Union Dreamboat was one of the first cruising yachts built for the common man. The original sticker price was under $6000. Lake Union Dry Dock built these in Seattle before the Great Depression. One doesn't have to look far to find much more historical information about these revered and instantly-recognizable classics -- probably one of the top two widely-known and early products born on Seattle's Lake Union (the other being Boeing Aircraft!).

Surprisingly many of these are still around today having been restored and kept under covered moorage. This one has had extensive work done over the years including a recent rebuilt Perkins diesel. The bilges are dry.

There is some paint and varnish that needs touch up but generally it's a beautiful boat.

We're fortunate to see lots of classic wooden yachts out on Lake Union and up in the Islands. If you have a love for this style of boat and desire to continue its legacy this one can be bought at an extreemly fair price.

The seller reports the Lake Union slip is transferable to a new owner.
